Mediation

No Obligation ~ Introductory Meeting

The function of this meeting is to introduce to the clients the Theory of Practice used in mediation. While the mediation style is founded in Family Law and practiced by a Certified Family Law Specialist, the central premise is that divorce is essentially a psychological process.

We explain how a Stage Model of Grief explains and anticipates how a couple will experience the experience of loss that is involved in every divorce. We will describe the empirical evidence that compels the conclusion that the grief associated with divorce is not just similar to the grief experienced in the context of death. They are the same and the well-understood grief process must be respected as much during divorce as it is in anticipation of death or mourning after death.

It is important that the potential clients can attend to the delivery of this information. We want them to understand what we do and how we will work with them if engaged. If anything about the approach doesn’t sit well with either party, the couple should work with another mediator.

We recommend that everyone should interview two or more mediator before deciding with whom they want to work.
